We are looking for an experienced, caring and dedicated Head Chef to join our catering team in delivering high quality, fresh, home cooked meals for our residents.
This is a full time, permanent position working in an intimate and comfortable 60 bedded Nursing Home that is independently-run and that likes to look after and support their staff. The salary ranges from £15.50-£16.00 per hour depending on experience. The shifts are 7am-4pm working 40 hours per week. This will include some weekends, rotating with another Cook. Your main duties will be to provide meals for Residents and Visitors to agreed schedules, to be responsible for food stock levels and to keep the Kitchen clean and tidy whilst operating to the relevant statutory guidelines and principles. On the days of a 7am start the food offered is for a cooked breakfast, otherwise it is preparation of 2 main courses for lunch and a dessert and soup, supper choice and sandwiches as required for the evening meal.
A Kitchen Assistant will be assisting with the washing up and general assistance in the kitchen but as the Head Chef you will be solely responsible for the smooth operation in the kitchen and ensuring a high standard of catering and cooked meals for the residents on the days you are working.
Candidates will ideally have a Food Hygiene Certificate and previous experience of working within a restaurant or some gourmet experience. Similar experience in a Care Home, School or similar environment is ideal but not essential. A good understanding of Health and Safety and COSHH guidelines is essential. Qualifications within Catering/Hospitality/Professional Cookery would be looked upon favourably.
Provide varied, nutritious and well balanced meals to the Residents
To cater for specific dietary requirements or preferences of individual Residents as directed by the Care Staff.
To be responsible for the storage and rotation of food stocks, ensuring use by dates are not exceeded and that wastage is kept to a minimum by such rotation
Bake and store cakes/birthday cakes to maintain an adequate supply
To ensure the food stock levels are adequate by providing an order list in the appropriate timescale
To be aware and conversant with the relevant Health and Safety at Work, Environmental Health, and Food and Hygiene regulations as they affect the role of Cook
